‘1mm off, he could have died’: Kota teen shot while playing, bullet travels through skull; lodged in cheek for 5 days | Jaipur News

KOTA: In a miraculous survival that stunned the medical team as well as family members, a 17-year-old boy, playing with other boys in his neighbourhood, was hit by a bullet that pierced his skull through the left ear, tore through the jaw on the other side, and got lodged in the right cheek for five days until he was operated upon in a private hospital in Kota Thursday this week. The boy is now safe and under post-surgery treatment. The incident occurred on Saturday last week when Shlok Gurjar, a Class 10 student and resident of Ramganjmandi police station area in Kota district, was playing with other boys in the neighbourhood. Suddenly, he collapsed and fainted, bleeding from his ear. Assuming the bleeding was an injury sustained while playing, family members rushed him to a hospital, where he returned to a normal condition through general treatment and began eating, drinking, and moving around comfortably. However, the parents consulted a doctor at Jhalawar district hospital for further treatment, who examined some “peculiar object” in the mouth and urged the parents to consult a doctor in Kota. The case came to senior neurosurgeon Dr Mamraj Agarwal in Kota two days ago, and he was stunned after seeing the X-ray.“We performed surgery on Thursday to remove the bullet lodged in the cheek. In my 38-year career, I have never seen such a case. The bullet entered through the ear, tore through the skull base, and came out the other side, passing through the right jaw and getting stuck in the flesh. If the bullet was 1 or 2 mm higher or lower from where it exited, the patient could have died because there are blood vessels on both sides that supply blood to the brain,” Dr Mamraj told the media. For three days after the incident, the boy was scared and didn’t reveal he was shot. The boy’s father, Suresh Gurjar, said an X-ray of the face was done in Jhalawar and the dentist mentioned seeing something unusual. On his advice, they brought the child to Kota. On the way, Shlok revealed that he had heard a gunshot-like sound before he fell that day. Circle inspector at Ramganjmandi police station, Manoj Sikarwal, said, “It is a bullet from some pistol that the surgery has revealed.”
